Gibraltar A-105
Gibraltar A-105 Compressor Oil is a high-quality petroleum lubricant formulated with solvent-refined, mid-continent paraffin base stocks and an additive package designed specifically for use in reciprocating compressors subjected to sour, wet, high-pressure gases found in chemical and fertilizer plants, gas-gathering services, and refineries.
QUALITIES:
- Gibraltar A-105 Compressor Oil was intentionally made a multi-grade oil having cold-weather flow characteristics of a SAE 2OW oil but still having the same viscosity as a SAE 6OW oil would have at 300°F. This is the highest viscosity of well-refined petroleum oils without adding ''bright stock'' which is known to produce carbon deposits.
- Compressor cylinder lubrication is a once-through application. This oil is heavily fortified with a combination of additives to cover a wide range of protection and is designed to be the sacrificial component for protection of the metal parts in sour gas applications.
ADDITIVE SELECTION:

Combat corrosive attacks by hydrogen sulfide, wet carbon dioxide, and other sour-gas components.
- Resist washing of entrained water by using an organic metal-wetting and water-displacing additive (no lard oil).
- Promote rapid glazing of metal surfaces, even with abrasive scratching.
- Allow quick release of entrained gases by an anti-foam additive.
- Resist catalyst poisoning effect generally associated with compounded oils.
- Eliminate sluging and deposit formation on compressor discharge valves, piping, and aftercooler tubing.
- Permit easy separation of oil from gas stream.
- Provide a high-viscosity index oil for better viscosity at the extremes of cold and hot temperatures.
VISCOSITY CHARACTERISTICS:

Counteract reduction of viscosity due to gas absorption at high pressures.

Provide an oil of sufficient body at high operating temperatures.

Allow a flat viscosity curve for maximum body at high temperatures as well as best flowability in cold weather.

Provide low temperature pumpability in winter operations.
