A Brief Biography of T. R. Mullen, the Formulator of the Gibraltar Compressor Oil:

The Gibraltar Compressor Oil was formulated in 1972 by Mr. T. R. Mullen at the request of Mr. Glen M. Majors, a Dresser-Rand compressor design engineer looking for an improved lubricant for severe field service. In addition to its lubricating qualities, it was essential that the special formulation would combat corrosive, wet, high-pressure gases found in chemical and fertilizer plants, gas-gathering services and refineries, and prevent deposits from forming in critical areas of the reciprocation compressors.Dresser_Rand_compressor Within a short while, two other lubricants, the Gibraltar H and Synthetic 400 were formulated for field use.  Mr. Mullen retired as Senior Research Engineer from the former Cities Service Oil Company. He has more than 35 years experience in formulating a wide variety of oil products, including wax and wax products, greases and a large number of different oil formulations for a multitude of uses.

Mr. Mullen is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Arizona with a Master’s Degree in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Engineering from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York.

A Brief Biography of Glen M. Majors:  

Glen M. Majors graduated with a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, after which he served four years in the United States Navy. Upon completing his military service, Mr. Majors began working for Dresser-Rand as “Chief Design Engineer.” During his 30 year tenure with Dresser-Rand, he was involved in field testing new equipment and modification of existing equipment. While in the field, Majors saw that a special compressor oil was needed to combat hydrogen sulfide, carbonic acid, and other corrosive, water-wet gases.

Glen Majors is presently a full time reciprocating compressor consultant. He works with facilities to solve all types of problems including design, mechanical and technical, which plant engineers and superintendents may experience.
